One of my favourite things to do in Mykonos was to watch the sunsets every evening. It was like a ritual: leave the beach around two hours before the golden hour, get dressed, watch the sunset, dine and party. Being able to take photos with the golden hour glow was my guilty pleasure!
There are some key places in the island where watching the sunset becomes an experience. These places make a perfect cap off to a day in Mykonos!
180 DEGREES SUNSET BAR
180 Degrees Sunset Bar is the highest peak in Mykonos Town so it provides the perfect panoramic view for next level sunset watching in Mykonos. This was actually my favourite place in Mykonos to watch the sunset. The atmosphere, the killer cocktails, the delicious food and the music make sunset watching here ‘a show’. I recommend you make a reservation to secure the best spots within their layout. It’s pricy but 100% worth it.
LITTLE VENICE / NICE N EASY
My second favorite place to watch the sunset in Mykonos is Little Venice. Widely regarded as one of the most romantic places on the island, Little Venice is also perfectly located so that there are multiple locations here to gaze at the setting sun. The best place in my opinion is the restaurant Nice N Easy which has many tables in the terrace and provides the perfect view of both the windmills and the colorful houses floating above the water.
CAVO TAGOO MYKONOS
This instagram-hype luxury spot is an extra special place where to watch the sunset from with its low tables located in an infinity pool. Take here someone you want to impress, and watch the sun set over the Aegean sea while you sip on cocktails or enjoy some of the food from one of its pop up restaurants.
KATO WINDMILLS
Not far from Little Venice you’ll find Kato’s Windmills. The white cyclindrical structures with pointed thatched roofs are the first thing you see upon arrival into the harbour of Alefkandra.
Head to up the hill where 7 of the 16 windmills are located before dusk to claim a good spot. Gaze in wonder as the sun illuminates these unique landmarks and enjoy the view of the harbour and the entire village of Chora from your vantage point.
SCORPIOS BEACH CLUB
Included in my list of the best places to party in Mykonos, the luxe beach clubs Scorpios is not only party worthy but also a great place to eat and watch the sunset from due to its unique location. The golden hour paired to its unique bohemian design and the beautifully dressed people that frequent this place make it a must. With a DJ spinning sick beats and a pricy cocktail in your hand, recline against pouffy pillows on the Sunset Beach as the sun dips…or dance!
KIKI’S TAVERNA
If you like fresh local food, this is the place to be. While a little out of the way, Kiki’s is a charming al fresco Greek restaurant by the stunning Agios Sostis beachside.
Note that this is a place to eat and watch the sunset but not a party place as the taverna closes when it gets dark because it operates sans electricity, so make sure you don’t show up right before the sun sets!
SUNSET YACHT CRUISE
If you’d rather watch the sunset with the wind in your face as you glide over the Aegean sea, and as the golden rays hit the waves, then take a sunset cruise. This cruise are already fun without the sunset, so you can already imagine why I’m recommending it. Also, it includes unlimited drinks and a snack. Book it here, or below:
ELYSIUM HOTEL SUNSET BAR
The terrace of the Elysium Hotel is the ultimate gay hotspot for sunset drinks over the Chora (or Mykonos Town). One can say that it is a tradition and rite of passage in Mykonos to watch the sunset from this spot. Apart from panoramic views of the capital getting ready for another vibrant night, you can also enjoy your cocktails and a hard-to-forget drag show.
